VBeam Laser

VBeam is a type of laser that uses a specific wavelength of light (595 nm) to target blood vessels in the skin. The term “pulsed dye” refers to the way the laser emits energy in short bursts and to the dye used in the system to produce the ideal wavelength for treating vascular conditions. When directed at the skin, this laser light is absorbed by the hemoglobin in the blood vessels and converted to heat, causing them to collapse and be gradually reabsorbed by the body without harming the surrounding tissue.   It is an effective option to treat rosacea, port wine stains, and red scars. Because of this selective targeting, VBeam is safe and effective for most skin types. It can also be used to treat bruises, expediting their clearance over the next 24-48 hours.

VBeam is primarily used to address conditions related to visible blood vessels or redness. Commonly treated concerns include:

• Rosacea: Persistent facial redness and visible capillaries are significantly improved.
• Facial veins and spider veins: Broken blood vessels around the nose, cheeks, and legs respond well to treatment.
• Port wine stains: These birthmarks, which are vascular in nature, can fade with a series of treatments.
• Cherry angiomas: Small, red vascular growths can be rapidly removed or significantly reduced.
• Red scars: Post-acne scars or surgical scars that remain red can be treated to even skin tone.
• Poikiloderma: Sun-induced changes in skin texture and color, often seen on the neck or chest, can be improved.
• Bruising or redness after cosmetic procedures: VBeam helps speed recovery by reducing inflammation and discoloration.

During your consultation with Dr. Brian Hibler your skin will be carefully evaluated to determine whether VBeam is the appropriate treatment for your concerns. Dr. Hibler will assess your skin type, examine the target areas, and discuss your goals in detail. He will explain how the laser works, what to expect during the procedure, how many sessions may be needed, and what kind of results are realistic based on your skin condition and response to treatment.

In many cases, patients require a series of sessions spaced several weeks apart for optimal results. The number of treatments depends on the severity of the concern and the individual’s skin response. Many patients notice improvement after just one session, while others may benefit from three to five treatments.

VBeam treatments are performed in-office and typically take 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area. The laser pulses feel like a series of quick snaps, similar to a rubber band flicking against the skin. Dr. Hibler may apply a topical numbing cream beforehand for more sensitive areas or for patients who prefer added comfort, especially if patients are having Vbeam and other lasers together in one session

The laser delivers energy in targeted bursts, and the Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD) delivers a spray of cryogen before each pulse to protect the outer skin from thermal damage and reduce discomfort. This cooling technology sets VBeam apart from other lasers and contributes to a safer and more pleasant experience, especially for individuals with sensitive or reactive skin.

For patients with other cosmetic concerns, such as sun-spots and wrinkles, the Vbeam laser can be safely combined with other devices during your treatment for more comprehensive rejuvenation in one session. For example, the Vbeam may be performed at the same time as a picosecond laser to remove brown spots and the Fraxel Dual laser to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles while enhancing skin texture and tone. Most patients experience mild redness or swelling immediately after treatment, which typically resolves within a few hours to a couple of days. There may be slight darkening of the treated vessels or bruising, especially when higher settings are used to target deeper or more prominent vascular lesions. These side effects are temporary and can be covered with makeup if desired.

Patients are advised to avoid sun exposure and use broad-spectrum sunscreen diligently after treatment. Gentle skincare and avoiding harsh exfoliants or retinoids for a few days will also support the healing process.

Over time, as the treated vessels are absorbed by the body, redness diminishes, and skin tone appears more even and radiant. Patients often report that their skin looks healthier and feels smoother after completing their treatment series.
